Patient Journey

Consultation

An initial consultation with Dr Shah requires a current referral. Referrals from a General Practitioner are valid for twelve months, and Specialist referrals are valid for three months. At the initial consultation, Dr Shah will briefly cover your child's medical history and assess your child's condition. An extended period is allocated for the initial consultation and therefore a higher fee is charged.

Diagnosis

Following the initial consultation, your child's doctor will order specific diagnostic tests that will help confirm your child's condition. These may include blood tests, imaging studies and/or various neurological studies, which will test the activity of the nerves and their effect on the muscles and other organs they supply, as well as identify other diseases and problems that may be causing the condition. The results from these diagnostic tests will help your child's doctor design an effective treatment plan that will offer the best outcomes.

Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation is aimed at restoring your child’s physical, sensory, intellectual, psychological and social functions. The goal of a rehabilitation program varies depending on the specific needs and is aimed at achieving a quick recovery. This program helps your child’s return to a normal life through therapy or training.

The rehabilitation program is structured after a thorough clinical assessment. Therapy is provided by a multidisciplinary team in a group or individual setting with daily or weekly sessions based on the level of impairment. An inpatient program may be recommended for those with severe disability. Speech therapy is offered for problems with language processing and communication. Occupational therapy helps your child perform specific tasks more efficiently. Activities are organized to help your child re-enter the community or school.

Follow up

Regular follow-up visits are important to ensure your child's complete recovery and a successful treatment outcome.

At each follow-up visit, please keep your doctor informed of your child's recovery/progress and contact your doctor for any health concerns your child may experience in between visits. Please call the office to make appointments for your visits.
