Complex Epilepsy Clinic

Children and adolescent with difficult to control epilepsy are evaluated with detailed review of the epilepsy type, previous medication review and opinion about management is given. Detailed referral preferably from specialist is preferable for complex epilepsy patient along with copy of any previous scans performed.

Patients will also be assessed for other therapies if their epilepsy is not controlled with combination of antiepileptic medications.

The alternatives may include ketogenic diet, Vagal Nerve Stimulation or Epilepsy surgery. Detailed evaluation of complex epilepsy patients may require further investigations and admission to Epilepsy Monitoring Unit that can be arranged at Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital.
